Glenville NS is “Greener than Green!”

March 24, 2015 Comments off

What an eventful day it was today for some of the students of Glenville NS. Our Green Schools officer Ellen Murphy arranged for some of our students to mark “Mix your Mode” week by travelling by both bus and train to Kent Station in Cork today (March 24th) to entertain commuters with a selection of our “Travel songs”. TV3 met us at Mallow Station and accompanied us on the journey to Cork which resulted in an appearance on both the 12:30 news and the 5:30 news. The children sang their hearts out throughout the journey and some were interviewed by Paul Byrne of TV3. We then got a bus into town where we performed our songs for the passers-by. We had a fantastic day and each and every one of the children did our school proud!
Below is a selection of some photos of our day:

Glenville NS Halloween 2014

November 5, 2014 Comments off

Our Halloween Dress-up just gets better and better every year! On Friday 23rd November Glenville NS opened its door to a mob of ghosts, witches, mummies, vampires and even scary GAA players!!!

The Green team held their annual competition for best homemade/recycled costume and each year the standard gets higher and higher! A huge effort is made by the children and parents and the creativity displayed on the day never ceases to amaze! Thankfullly the weather was kind to us and we were able to have our Halloween parade down through the village. We had a particularly busy assembly of prize-giving on the day as we had prizes for best homemade costume and also the winners for our recent competition held in co-operation with the newly re-established Tidy Towns were announced. The overall slogan chosen by Glenville Tidy Towns was created by Ava McKenna in 3rd class. “Bi glas, Be green, Bi glan, Be clean” A selection of the entries can be seen on the window of the old Credit Union. See pictures below:

Our Green Team is currently working towards achieving our next Green Flag for Travel and as this is National Walk to school week (May 12th to 16th)we organised an “WOW” (Walk on Wednesday)
Thankfully the morning stayed dry and our entire school jumped on our “Walking Bus” to do our bit towards reaching the target of having 20,000 people walking to school throughout Ireland this week.

Our green team had everything well-planned and ensured it all ran smoothly. They were aso helped by past members of our green team.

For the second year we held our Green Schools Cake Sale on the 20th February. Yet again, the families were extremely generous in the amount of tasty cakes and buns that were sent in. Each and every child in the school enjoyed several tasty treats! The Cake Sale was run very efficiently by all our Green Team.

Green Schools Visitor

March 21, 2013 Comments off

On the eighth of February we had a visit from Sandy McGroarty from Green Schools to go through our progress in relation to obtaining our 3rd Green Flag. Our Green Team met with Sandy first and she then showed us some very interesting slides in relation to water in the world. Some of our older children then performed some songs they have composed in relation to the Water theme. Sandy seemed very impressed by the Glenville talent! Fingers crossed now we will succeed in obtaining our 3rd Green Flag!
