From this year, school attendance must now be reported on line to the Department on the day in question. The roll will be taken in each classroom at 10am, and only children who are present in the school at roll call may be marked present.
TUSLA, the National Education Welfare Board requires schools to provide information regarding pupil absences.
Where your child is unable to attend school, notification should be done by letter to the class teacher (not in the school journal, for example, or by phone) and should include a reason for any absence. Pupils must have a written reason for all absences. This is a legal requirement on the school. Where parents fail to notify the school regarding the reason for any absence, this information is passed on to TUSLA.
The school must notify TUSLA whenever a child is absent for more than 20 days in a school year. In general, the school notifies parents when 15 days absence is reached.
In addition all absences must be notified to TUSLA at the end of each school year.

Use of pictures
The school takes pictures of pupils engaged in school activities. These may be used in class displays, in school publications, in gazettes, and on the school website. Occasionally they may also be forwarded to newspapers for publicity for the school. Children involved in school activities (Concerts, Corfheile na Scol, Sciath na Scol, Cork School Sports etc) may be photographed for publication in local newspapers.

Data Protection
Each year the Health Service Executive looks for the name, address and date of birth of every child in the school. This information is used to update records and facilitate school visits by the school nurse and organise dental appointments.
Under the Data Protection Act the school is required to protect personal information it holds. If you do not wish us to forward this information to the HSE please let us know.

Pupil Personal Insurance
This year we are encouraging all pupils to join the Pupil Personal Insurance scheme for school activities. The cost is €6 per pupil per year. Details of what this covers are on the attached form. The form should be filled in and returned to the school. If you require 24-hour cover, the cost is €9. Please indicate this when you are returning the form to the school.
These forms must be returned to the school as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday 21st September 2016. Thank you.

Contact Numbers
It is very important that we have a contact home or mobile number from every family in case of an emergency. We have included an addition to school profile form with this Gazette. Please fill this form in if there is any new information, for example if your child has developed a condition such as asthma or diabetes or has any allergies like nut allergies, wasp stings etc which has not been notified to the school, or if contact details have changed. If there are no changes there is no need to return the form.

Medical Information
It is very important that the school is notified of any medical condition that your child may have.
If your child needs to take medicine during school times e.g. an inhaler, etc. then the school needs to be informed and you will need to fill in a medical indemnity form which can be optained from Anne in the office.

Brown Envelopes
The eldest in each family will be given a brown envelope at the start of every week. The collection is €2.50 per week. This money goes towards educational and art materials, photocopying, tin whistle lessons and also reduces the cost of buses, educational visits etc, throughout the school year.
With Government cutbacks, this income has become very important to the school.
Parents can pay this monthy, annually, etc if they wish.
The school account is audited every year by Gabriel J Flynn & Co. from Fermoy.

School Book Scheme
We have introduced the book rental scheme to all classes.
The cost of the book rental scheme for all classes is €40.00 per pupil
Some families have already paid for the Book Rental Scheme in June. For those who haven’t yet paid, please send the money in as soon as possible. Thank you.

Wellies and outdoor shoes
All pupils will need either wellington boots or outdoor shoes from September on as we will be using the pitch for the foreseeable future.

Sciath na Scol Football Finals
Congratulations
Well done to our boys’ and girls’ teams on their successful Sciath na Scol campaigns. To have two teams compete in the finals on the same day is a fantastic occasion, and to have two winning teams on the same day is unbelievable. It’s only been done on a handful of occasions in the history of the school.
It’s always a brilliant occasion in the school with the mascots and childen in their Glenville colours, and this year our mascots – Lucy O’Mahony and Emily Daly – were outstanding. There was huge support in the Pairc too, with many parents and family members arriving to support the teams.
And how they did us proud! The girls won a tight tough physical encounter holding out through sheer grit and determination in the second half, having played most of the football in the first period.
The boys won in great style, showing teamwork and class, and rattled in seven goals for good measure.
Great credit is due to all involved, and particularly to those teachers who give of their time and talents to coach these teams. Well done to to Mary Donovan, Ber O’Callaghan, Sarah Clynch and Mairead O’Callaghan.
And well done to all our players.
Glenville Abú.

Welcome
We would like to welcome everyone at the start of this new school year. This is a special time, as we begin our first term in our new building. We would like to extend a special thanks to our design team, and especially Tom O’Brien Construction for the speedy work done. It’s hard to believe that nothing at all had been started when we returned to school this time last year.
We are now in a state of the art building, with a brilliant hall, plenty of secure play area, and up to date IT facilities.
Obviously access to the school has changed with the new facilities. Only buses and staff cars may enter the school premises. Children can walk into the secure yard area via the walkways.
We extend a special welcome to our new Junior Infants. These are: James McDermott, Róisín Milner, Alex Magner, Jack Sheehan, Colm Murphy, Kate Russell, Kalum O’ Sullivan Fahy, Padraig Roche, Matthew Counihan, Kate Murtagh, Ellmarie O’ Driscoll Lawlor, Julia Lynch, Aisling Dorgan, Alan Smith, Eoghan O’Mahony, Alex Healy, Séan Fenton, Johanna McHugh, James Forde, Áine Forde, Adam Fitzgerald and Emma Cregan.
We also welcome two new pupils to First Class Zander Newlands and Conor Crowe and welcome back Mia Doyle who will also be returning to First Class. Welcome also to Sadhbh Connolly who will be starting in Third Class.

We still retain five SNA’s in the school.
These are: Catherine Murphy, Anne Murphy, Anne Dunne, Avril Nixon and Mary Carey.

For your attention
A copy of the School Rules is attached to the Gazette for the Junior and Senior Infants. You will also have received a copy of the school’s Anti –Bullying Statement at enrolment. This forms part of the school’s Code of Discipline.
It is a requirement of enrolment in the school that parents and pupils undertake to abide by these rules. The school rules are also in the School Homework Journal.
The school opens at 9.20 a.m. and closes at 3.00 p.m. The Board of Management takes no responsibility for children outside of these times unless they are engaged in authorised school activities. Parents should be particularly aware that while children are allowed on the school premises in the morning they remain unsupervised until school opening time.
All parents are reminded that children’s names should be clearly written on all items such as tracksuits (top and bottom) coats and jackets, as well as on the front of school books etc.,
Each year there is an amount of unclaimed lost property left in the school.
Mobile phones are not allowed in school without permission. Finally, school policy discourages the wearing of jewellery in school for safety reasons.

Healthy Eating Policy
Parents are urged to remember the Healthy Eating Policy when making school lunches. Copies of the Policy are available from the office.
In addition in order to reduce waste and encourage recycling, pupils are asked to take home all waste in their lunch boxes

Standard School Holidays
In the next Gazette we will list the standardised school closures up to the Christmas Holidays.

School Attendance

If you have issues with pictures of your child being taken and used in this way, it would be important to contact us to let us know.

These forms must be returned to the school as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday 23rd September 2015.

Junior Infants
Junior Infants will start at 9.20am and finish every day at 12 O’ Clock up to Tuesday 15th September. They can be collected at the inner (green) gate at this time. On Wednesday 16th September they will start at 9.20am and finish at 2pm. They can be collected at the inner gate (green) with the Senior Infants.

The school account is audited every year with Gabriel J Flynn & Co. from Fermoy.

School Book Scheme
We have introduced the book rental scheme to all classes.
The cost of the book rental scheme for all classes is €35.00 per pupil
Some families have already paid for the Book Rental Scheme in June. For those who haven’t yet paid, please send the money in as soon as possible. Thank you.
